“Perfect Messy Bun”

“Perfect Messy Bun”

This link from Pinterest claims to have the secret to the perfect messy bun… I don’t believe it! Years ago, I learned that there is no such thing as the “perfect” messy bun but it sure is easy to make a mess of your hair and make it look like you did it on purpose! I think that the messy bun is the best thing ever and it is so much quicker to do in the morning than taking the time to straighten or curl my hair. The key to a “messy bun” is the looseness. The looser the bun, the messier it looks. Here are a few examples of the different stages of my hot mess buns!

Mixing it up with some “fresh” veggies

While I was home for Easter, I got to do some cooking, and what better place to find some rockin recipes than Pinterest?! Now, I love my vegetables but I also like to try new things (I’ll admit that half the time I don’t end up liking them, but I still give it a try). Mushrooms and green beans happen to be two of my favorites, so I figured that this would be a home run. The only thing that kept me from really enjoying this side-dish was the balsamic vinegar. It was just too sweet for me, but really I should have called it because I don’t like dressing anyway. Plus, I am the type of person who prefers her vegetables absolutely plain. They were better when I mixed them with my baked potato and steak though. I do recommend trying these if you feel like going for something different during your dinner!

Quick fix

Quick fix

Have you ever found the perfect shade of nail polish to just brighten your day? So, you buy it and take it home, excited to paint away and show everyone the beautiful colors that dance across your fingertips. It is great and you actually do a really good job at painting them (even on your dominant hand) but then you reach for your water and accidentally brush your wet nails against the sofa… That actually happened to me the other night and I was so sad. Luckily, I had read this and I knew that I could fix those few little smudges by licking my fingertip and wiping up in the opposite direction. It was a good save and I didn’t have to worry about re-doing the whole nail! There are so many great tips in this link that I highly recommend you look through and memorize the ones that affect you regularly!!

Health-y Bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Health-y Bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S

I will admit that I’m a little late in posting this one. A couple weeks ago I went home for a break and I got a craving for banana bread but I am trying to eat a little bit healthier. So, as per my usual, I decided to go onto pinterest and find a healthy recipe! Genius, I know! Really, the main difference was using greek yogurt and wheat flour. Personally, I thought it delicious! It was moist and banana-y (couldn’t think of a better adjective)! I actually sent half of it home with my brother to share with his girlfriend and she texted me later to thank me and let me know that she liked it. Here is what mine looked like!

My mom doesn’t like yogurt so she decided that she wanted to make her own. So, instead, she made banana bread with bourbon, chocolate chips, and walnuts. She was inspired by this recipe but decided to make it her own and add some chocolate. I have to say that both were pretty delicious!!

John Servati

Tornado Tragedy

I know that I normally post about different pins that I have tested out, but I hope you can excuse me for writing about something a little more serious today. A couple days ago, there were quite a few storms that swept through the South. Alabama and Mississippi were hit especially hard. I know that every time a tornado touches down and destroys lives it is tragic. These natural disasters literally tear apart people’s lives.

John Servati is a junior at Alabama, at least he was. He is a swimmer, at least he was. He is a son, friend, and boyfriend, at least he was. Most of all, John Servati is a hero, and that is something that will never go away.

On Monday night, John and his girlfriend were riding out the storms in the basement of his house when a cement wall was about to fall on them. He pushed her out of the way and sacrificed his life to save hers.
I never met John, and now there is no chance that I will, yet I still feel this connection to him. No matter how different we were or how many states separate us, we shared one thing: a love of swimming. This one sport connects millions of athletes and allows us to feel a sense of community with one another. I never met John, and I don’t claim to know anything about him or feel his loss in any way that his family, friends, teammates and coaches do, but I can honestly say that the world of swimming is mourning the loss of a great athlete and we are blessed to have had such a selfless hero in our community for as long as we did.

Just keep swimming.

Feelin Frosty??

Hey everyone!  Jamie from jamie’s home blog here.

I want to start this post with a huge thank you and a virtual fist bump to Jessie for having me here today.  I’m pumped to be a guest on Fact or Pin-tion!  I first hooked up with her by giving her a Liebster award and have been eagerly reading her posts ever since.  Now get ready for a handful of hyperlinks and a smidge of rambles.

Since so many of us are Pinterest addicted, it’s nice to have a gal like her out there testing pins and giving us real results!

We’ve all seen the pins for copycat recipes, right?  Well when I was invited to test a pin for you guys, I thought it was the perfect time to give this one a go.  Low-Fat Copycat Wendy’s Frosty.  My internal monologue when I saw it: “I’ll take seven of those and one to go, please”.

The recipe was written by Averie from Averie Cooks, and oh man, you guys.  She posts tons of recipes to satiate your sweet tooth and when I read through her blog I wanted to try EVERY. LAST. ONE.

As for the Low-Fat Frosty Copycat, three words – FOLLOW THE RECIPE.  In my normal style, I switched an ingredient before thinking it through…Because I always think I’m a genius right before I royally screw things up.  I used a can of Redi-Whip instead of a tub of Cool Whip.  The Frosty did not freeze properly and tasted okay but not identical to that iconic frozen treat we all love.  Of course the boyfriend didn’t mind and dutifully ate the whole thing anyway.

For the second go ‘round, I followed exactly what Averie did.   The boyfriend complained about having to eat a second chocolaty treat (lies).  He and I both are happy to report that the recipe totally lived up to the title.  Folks around our parts (North Texas) would be clamoring to dip their Wendy’s fries in this low fat treat!  Most delicious!  I hope you guys give it a go; I promise it’s worth it.  And you won’t even need to buy stretch pants.

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

On Friday, April 11th, my beautiful mom turned 50 but really she’s like 30 at heart! I knew that I wanted to get her something, but what could be cute, meaningful, and cheap at the same time? I thought about flowers, but I figured that my dad might get them for her, luckily he did! (She was happy!) Then, I realized it was time to take myself to the computer, maybe some Pinspiration would hit me… and what do you know? It did! All I had to do was get some scrapbook paper and I was good to go!
This was a great way to remind my mom how much I do love her, not just because she’s my mom but because of everything that she does and who she is. I know that it wasn’t much, but I think that it went over alright, at least some of them made her laugh. Besides, the real present was my brother and me making the trip home to see her for the weekend.
